72 Year Old Dies during Rollover Accident

A rollover accident in Jacumba last week resulted in the death of a 72-year-old man from Yuma.

According to the county Medical Examiner's Office the victim was later identified as Gregory E. Gates. Witnesses saw his vehicle veer off of Interstate 8 going westbound, then observed it veer back on and across all of the lanes before hitting an embankment and rolling over.

Although he was rushed to the Sharp Memorial Hospital in San Diego Gates  passed away shortly after arriving. The coroner's office is not offering any additional comments about the rollover accident until the autopsy has been completed.  In addition to local officers, California Highway Patrol is investigating the accident.
