In South Carolina, a family in Horry County was recently awarded $3 million by a jury presiding over their medical malpractice lawsuit. The family lost a 25 year old female family member after she sought medical treatment in 2002.
The deceased victim, Kelly Faye, died in 2002 after she developed an infection that stemmed from an undiagnosed kidney stone. After going to the South Strand Emergency Room and receiving treatment, she was discharged and scheduled for an appointment with an urologist the following Monday. However, before the day of the appointment arrived, Faye passed away.
The jury presiding over the case said that medical providers did, "not meet the accepted standard of care in failing to take appropriate vital signs and perform basic testing." They said that if the medical professionals had conducted tests, they would have most likely found Faye's kidney stone and provided appropriate treatment.
If you or someone close to you has been a victim of medical malpractice or negligence, you should consult with a personal injury attorney immediately. You may be eligible to file a claim for the pain and suffering you endured.
