Parents of Dartmouth Student Who Died From Ski Injury Settles Lawsuit with College

The family of a Dartmouth student who died from a fatal head injury sustained during a beginning skiing class offered by the college has settled their lawsuit with the school.

The lawsuit stems from an accident that occurred on February 3, 2004. During a beginning skiing class, Christina Porter skied into a tree at the Dartmouth Skiway while not wearing a helmet.  After the accident she was in a coma for six months, but eventually passed away from her injuries.

Porter’s parents, Brent and Mary Solstrom Porter, were originally seeking more than $20 million in damages from the college on grounds of wrongful death and negligence.

The Associated Press reported that the Porters settled their lawsuit, but the details of the lawsuit will not be made available to the public because all terms are confidential.

When a person’s death is caused by the negligence of another, the family of the victim may be entitled to wrongful death benefits and damages. If you have recently lost a loved one, a knowledgeable personal injury attorney can meet with you to discuss your rights and options in regards to filing a lawsuit, and provide you with the dedication, support, and guidance you need throughout the legal process. An attorney can also ensure your rights to recovery are protected, and help you pursue wrongful death benefits for maximum compensation.
