In the month of June, it has been announced that a national boating safety campaign will be held. The campaign is meant to stop people from being intoxicated while operating watercrafts and will hopefully decrease the number of boat accidents that occur during summer months
Operation Dry Water is set for June 25 - 27. During this weekend, law enforcement will focus on boating sobriety detection and try to reduce alcohol related accidents and fatalities.
In a statement, the N.C. Wildlife Resources Commission said, "Operating a recreational vessel while under the influence of an impairing substance or with a blood alcohol concentration of .08 or higher is against the law." Penalties for boating under the influence will include large monetary fines and possible jail time. According to the statement, approximately 20% of boating accident fatalities involve consumption of alcohol.
Have you been involved in a serious boat accident? If so, you may be allowed to file a claim to collect damages. Find a personal injury lawyer to learn more about your legal options.
