Animal Control Warns Residents About Approaching Dogs

After two dog bites were recorded in Clarkstown this winter, the animal control officer is warning residents to take care when approaching dogs during this season. Pat Coleman believes that when people are bundled up for the winter the dogs that are usually friendly may not recognize them and attack them. This was the case for the two bites that occurred recently.
Two people approached dogs that they were already familiar with, neither of which had a history of biting or aggression, and were bit by the canines. Yet to the dogs eyes the men became suspicious in appearance dressed in their winter clothing. He adds that "dogs will bite from fear more than aggression. When you go up to them and they don't recognize you, they will bite."
Neither of the men attacked by dogs were seriously injured; both canines have all of their vaccinations.
