Wrongful Death Calim Filed Against Police

This week, a multimillion dollar federal lawsuit was filed against the County government and six members of the police force by the mother of a man from Essex who was shot to death two years ago.  The man was shot and killed by police officers from Baltimore County.

According to the mother, Gwendolyn Canns, her son Taevon G. Cann, died as the result of excessive force. At the time of his death, he was 25 years old. The mother said that police officers fired more than 70 bullets at her son at a gas station on February 29, 2008.

The wrongful death claim states that, "The barrage of bullets was so intense that they not only took his life but also destroyed his automobile."  The lawsuit was filed last week in US District Court in Baltimore. The legal paperwork asserts that Cann was, "The barrage of bullets was so intense that they not only took his life but also destroyed his automobile."
