Man Sues after Dog Bite Incident

According to SFC.com - A man is filing a lawsuit after being bitten by a Contra County sheriff's dog.  The man was bitten by the dog after trying to flee from deputies and he is seeking $1 million in damages from the County.

The man, 27 year old Treon Pique, claims that he had already surrendered to law enforcement in his backyard when the authorities told the dog to "Get him!"  The dog bit Pique on his right arm and left him with serious, permanent injuries.  Mr. Pique claims that the deputy ordering the dog, Robert Jones, was aware that he had surrendered, but that he had ordered to dog to attack anyway.

The lawsuit was recently filed in the U.S. District Court in San Francisco.

"It looks like the officer used his dog to torture Mr. Pique," said Pique's attorney, Ben Nisenbaum. "Mr. Pique's shoulder is destroyed from the officer's dog chewing on it well after the officer had Mr. Pique detained. It may have been a situation where the officer wanted to make Mr. Pique pay for running from him."

Spokesman for the sheriff's department, Jimmy Lee, is refusing to comment on the dog bite lawsuit, but Contra County has denied Pique's claim.

According to Pique's complaint against the sheriff's department, "Pique had not committed any crime, did not have any weapons or drugs on him and was not on probation or parole."  Therefore, the attack against Pique was supposedly unjustifiable.  Additionally, no charges were filed against him after the incident occurred.
