Defective Toy Leads to Injuries for Children, Including Burn Injuries

Today, the Consumer Product Safety Commission is issuing a recall for 200,000 battery operated toy speed boats.  The toy speed boats are being sold by the Dollar General Merchandising Inc. and are being recalled due to reports that the toys overheat and can lead to burn injuries.

The hazardous speed boats are plastic and light weight.  They are supported by an inflatable hull with outside motors.  Reports indicate that the toys operate on two AA batteries and that the toy is relatively small, measuring only 12 inches by 8 inches.  The toy is sold in various different types of colors and designs.

In the past few weeks, reports have come in that small children are burning their finger tips and other body parts on while playing with the toy because the toy overheats rather quickly.  While there have no reports of serious injuries, the toy is being recalled as a preventative measure by the Consumer Product Safety Commission.
