Personal Injury Possibilities: Cruise Ships

People often think of cruises as the ultimate relaxing vacation. Rarely do we think of cruise ships as a dangerous place that could be the scene of a terrible injury. Yet while these luxury cruise liners are paradise for many, there are times that they can be dangerous. They are large vessels out in the midst of a sometimes tumultuous ocean. Only a few days ago, one of the world’s most luxurious expedition cruise ships was damaged by rough seas when on a voyage to Antarctica.
The Silversea Cruise ship staff says that four crew members that were on board the Silver Explorer ship suffered injuries when the ship encountered heavy weather. At the time, the ship was carrying 132 passengers and was on an 18 night voyage. The ship started in Ushuaia, Argentina and was headed back to port after reaching the frigid arctic earlier. The vessel was scheduled to set out on another trip on January 21st, but the cruise was canceled as a result of the damage. The condition of the Silversea has not been released but the crew assured passengers that the ship was in great condition with stabilizers in working order.
The cruise line also announced that while four crew members were harmed in the harsh weather, their injuries were minor and they were treated on the ship. While this is a only a small cruise ship accident, there have been other accidents in recent years that have not been nearly as simply. The famous Costa Concordia accident that happened almost exactly a year ago is burned in the minds of survivors as a tragedy that proves cruise ships aren’t always safe. This accident sent 32 people to a watery grave when the ship ran aground on the Island of Giglio. The captain of the ship was prosecuted for negligence and manslaughter in the case, though he is maintaining the position that he still regrets nothing about the Costa Concordia accident.
While many cruise ship accidents are due to poor weather or negligent captains, there are times that people are harmed on cruise ships for other reasons. Recently, a child fell from a cruise ship deck on a Royal Caribbean cruise and his injuries were so severe that the captain determined that the ship needed to be turned back around and taken back to its original port. This is because the medical personnel on the boat could not handle the situation and the little boy appeared to be in the need to surgery. The cruise ship had just left Port Canaveral for Nassau in the Bahamas’ when the toddler crawled over the 11th floor ship deck and tumbled to the 10th floor deck below, incurring dangerous injuries.
Whether you slip and fall while on a cruise ship because the crew failed to maintain a safe deck, or are the survivor of a terrible cruise ship accident, you can seek compensation for any injuries that you received. In order to do so, you will want the help of a hardworking and dedicated attorney. You will want a lawyer who can pull out all the evidence and prove that the cruise ship is responsible to compensate you for your medical bills, lost wages during recovery and more. As well, if you lost a loved one on a tragic cruise ship accident such as the Costa Concordia disaster, then you can seek wrongful death compensation from the cruise ship that is responsible. With the help of a personal injury attorney in your area, you can prove liability and may be able to get a significant amount of money to help you recover from your sufferings.
