A Brooklyn Jewish Orthodox community was forced to experience terrible news this last Sunday after they were told that 21 year old newly married Nachman and Raizy Glauber were killed in a hit and run car accident, along with their unborn child. The wife was seven months pregnant and that morning she was experiencing discomfort and the coupe decided to head to the hospital for care. Sadly, while in the taxi on their way to the doctors, a BMW sped by going twice the legal speed limit and crashed into their car. The impact severely crushed the car and the engine was shoved into the backseat. The husband was pinned inside the vehicle and it required the emergency response team to remove the roof in order to retrieve his body.
Razi, the wife, was ejected from the vehicle and thrown under a parked truck on the side of the street. Emergency response was able to keep her alive and bring her into the hospital though she died not long after. Surgeons performed a cesarean section on the mother in attempt to save the baby and the boy was born weighing a total of 4 pounds. Unfortunately, he only made through he night' the baby boy was pronounced dead on Monday morning. Spokesman for the Hasidic Jewish community, Isaac Abraham, claims that the baby boy was buried right next to his parents, just a day after the community held the funeral for the young couple.
What shocks the public, and especially the Jewish community that is surrounding the family, is that the man responsible did not bother to stop and see if the family needed help. rather the car kept on driving; the man responsible has now identified. Julio Acevedo was allegedly driving the BMW at about 60 miles per hour, twice the legal limit; and likely the reason behind such a disastrous crash.
The driver of the taxi, Pedro Nunez Delacruz, is said to have been only knocked unconscious from the accident and he did not sustain any serious injuries. However according to reports on the driver, his taxi was not officially registered and therefore his car should not have been sent to pick up the couple at all. There are no reports about his being responsible at all for the accident, though.
Acevedo is currently wanted by the police for his actions, and there have been reports of his saying that he wants to turn him in though he has yet to do so. He claims that he wants to take responsibility for his actions, though he is scarred of having to spend the rest of his life in jail. Just last month he was convicted for driving under the influence and in the 90's his record shows that he spent a decade behind bars because of a manslaughter conviction.
Abraham claims that their community is demanding the prosecution on this case to charge Acevedo for the death of both the couple and their baby, stating that it is worthy of a triple homicide charge. The death of this young family has the large Jewish community mourning not only death, but also the carelessness of the driver himself that resulted in his accident. In the event that you or someone you know has been a victim of a car accident that resulted in injury or death, do not wait another moment before contacting a personal injury attorney in your area.
