Tanning booths advertise beautiful skin for a low price in a short amount of time. If you have a membership at a tanning salon, you can lay in one of the UV Ray beds for a matter of minutes and come out with smooth and dark skin. If you enjoy heading to the tanning salon, you should still be cautious. Studies have shown that artificial tanning can actually be very bad for your skin. The most common way that people are injured in tanning booths is with a sunburn.
Because the UV Rays in the beds are powerful, a person can get an artificial sun burn in a matter of minutes. These burns can be very painful and cause blistering and peeling. If you end up with particularly painful sunburn, you may be able to press charges. This is especially true if your burn will create permanent scarring. When you get a sunburn from a tanning booth, you are actually damaging your epidermis. This is the outermost later of your skin. If you get a blistering sunburn, it doubles your chances for melanoma, which is the number one deadly type of skin cancer.
It is easy to get sunburnt at these tanning booths if you don’t use the right tanning oils, or are not educated as to how long you should set the tanning bed lights for. Some salons are better than others at educating their customers in how to operate the beds. Another personal injury possibility from tanning booths is tanning. You read that right, sometimes tanning can create serious health risks and a higher possibility of melanoma in the future. While we believe that tan skin is attractive, the darker pigment is really the result of skin damage. The UVA and UVB rays in tanning beds cause skin dancer, and the evidence that you are getting tan may also be the evidence that you are getting sick. According to the FDA those who are over the age of 30 and tan increase their risk of melanoma by 75 percent. While Melanoma can be curable if found early, it will involve a surgery and possible chemotherapy.
Before you get cancer, you may discover scaly bumps on your skin after too many trips to the tanning salon. This is called Actinic or Solar Keratosis and is a form of pre-cancer that will turn into full-blown cancer if it isn’t regulated. More than 5 million Americans are diagnosed with this illness every single year. In addition, tanning booths often bring on premature aging. Sun or UV Ray damaged skin often have wrinkly skin as they age and also contract age spots and wrinkles. Another reason that tanning booths aren’t considered safe is because of the potential of eye damage. Just like it is dangerous to stare at the sun, it is dangerous to go in a tanning bed without your eyes protected.
Too many people bypass the cost of eye protection and end up with cataracts. These vision-impairing problems are the direct result of too much UV Ray exposure. Sometimes you can get surgery to remove your cataract, but many times there is no cure. You can also get cancer around your eyes if you keep them open while in a UV Ray tanning bed. While some tanning booths require you thou sign a waiver, others may bypass that process. Also, if you are the victim of an equipment malfunction or a freak accident in the tanning salon, this is probably not covered in your waiver. If you have been harmed in one of these salons, then talk to a personal injury lawyer to see whether or not you have a case.
